Chicago Mercedes E Class: 2011 Model More Elegant

, Posted in: Article about car, Author: admin (January 25, 2012)

Not every class of Mercedes gets big updates at the start of the year. However, so far, 2011 appears to be the year of the E-Class. The automaker is expanding the E-Class family, and with this growth comes big changes.

At any Mercedes dealer, Chicago shoppers already see a variety of E-Class models: the sedan, wagon, coupe and cabriolet body styles. The latter are available in the E350 and E550 trims, which are powered by V6 and V8 engines, respectively.

Let’s take a look at the E550. On the surface, Mercedes has implemented the same design updates seen across the family of models, including a sharper grille and sleeker side paneling. In Chicago, Mercedes E Class owners recognize the automaker’s trademark design traits.

As for its engine specs, the E550 doesn’t disappoint. It’s equipped with a 5.5-liter V8, which outputs 382 horsepower. In its Sport mode, the car rockets to 60 miles per hour in 5.3 seconds. Although it’s no SLS AMG, the E550 will satisfy almost any speed cravings.

Despite the powerful engine, this vehicle, as all E-Class models have done over the years, offers a smooth, quiet ride. The car’s handling is equally smooth as well. The E550 never feels strained or twitchy, and the speed-sensitive steering offers great feedback. The E Class continues to outpace BMW and Audi in this element, keeping the brand’s place at the top of the list for luxury builds.

Finally, the E550 is packed with a slew of high-tech upgrades such as the Attention Assist system, which detects when the driver is drowsy and emits an audible signal. Plus, this car gets optional neck heaters called Airscarf. Overall, there’s little not to like about the 2011 E-Class.
